What do I need to do to get the car ready?

Make sure that you have your car inspected by a qualified mechanic, service facility, or your car club's safety chairman. The will need to fill out your tech sheet completely no sooner than two weeks prior to the event. Before you will be allowed on the track, all loose items in the car, including items in your trunk, will have to be removed. Your spare tire and jack may remain, providing they can be secured to the car. Our Tech Inspectors will give your car a thorough going over, and give you the Car Guys, Inc., stamp of approval. Then you're ready to hit the track!

What safety gear do you require for your track events?

All participants in track events must wear helmets that meet the Snell 95 standard. (M-Rated (Morotcycle) helmets are NOT acceptable.) Your gear will be checked during the on-site tech inspection the first day of the event. Roll bars are required for soft top/convertible cars. (Some tracks will not allow cars that have only factory installed rollbars and do not have supplemental roll bars installed. Please call our office for more information.)

OK, I'm at the track...NOW what do I do?

Make sure your car is completely emptied before you head out on the track. No floor mats, tissue boxes, fuzzy dice or anything in your glove compartment. These things become ICBMs on the Track. Pay particular attention to your trunk! Make sure your spare tire is secured in the appropriate spot, and that your tire iron and jack are not rattling around. If the jack and tire iron cannot be fastened to the body of the vehicle remove them.

Take your car to the "Tech Shed" with your completed Technical Inspection Form and have your car inspected by our Tech Team. It is a good idea to arrive as early as possible. All cars must pass the Tech Inspection on ALL DAYS OF THE EVENT, so the line could be long! The Tech Team will inspect your vehicle, give you the appropriate visible inspection sticker, sign your Tech Sheet and send you on your way. Take yourself and your Tech Sheet to Registration, where your Run Group assignment and Instructor Name will be provided. Now the only thing to do is get yourself to the mandatory driver's meetings and classes and to; HAVE A BLAST ON THE TRACK!

    How are Run Groups Determined?

You will be assigned to a Run Group (Green = Novice, Yellow = Intermediate, Blue = Advanced Intermediate, White=Advanced) based on several criteria. If you are new to Car Guys, and/or have little experience with other on-track organizations, you will most likely be assigned to the Green Group. Additional criteria includes the type of car you are driving and the recommendations of Instructors.

During the course of an event, your Instructor may recommend a Run Group change, based on your ability. This change could be to a higher group, and in some cases an Instructor might recommend a move to a lower group. The Management of Car Guys, Inc., may also move students to different groups, at it's discretion.

What should I wear to the Track?

When you are on the track, you must be fully protected. This means that you must wear a long sleeved shirt, and long-legged pants. You must wear closed-toe, rubber-soled shoes. Nomex driving suites are fine, but denim jeans and a 100-percent cotton shirt and pants will do just as well. In hot weather, we recommend that you carry clothing that can be slipped over your shorts/t-shirt. Don't forget to bring your helmet! (M - Rated helmets are not allowed.)

Do you have helmets for rent?

Yes, Car Guys, Inc does have a limited number of helmets available for rent at the track. The price is $25.00 for the weekend, with a $200.00 deposit. (An imprint of your credit card will be made. When the helmet is returned, all copies of the credit card slip will be returned.)

What can I expect during the days at the track?

Our typical schedule includes a combination of classroom training as well as the actual driving experience. You'll be assigned an instructor and a Run Group, which is based on your experience level. Our days are broken into segments where the different run groups are either in the classroom or on the track. We publish a schedule that will tell you when and where you're supposed to be. Your instructor will remain with you during your time on the track, and is available to you during the day to answer questions and provide assistance on driving techniques.

What should I bring to the track?

You need to be prepared for virtually every eventuality. Obviously, there are just some things that you can't plan for, however; the basics are:

    • Prepare for minor mechanical problems by bringing tools and parts to make limited repairs. If your vehicle requires some special tool or part, you're going to want to make sure you have that on hand.
    • Bring your Medical and Technical forms with you. You'll have to have them in order to register.
    • Bring appropriate clothing. (See above for the list.)

While there is usually a snack bar available at the tracks, we can't always guarantee that. Having snacks with you is a good idea. And, don't forget WATER! You should always carry extra water with you. Driving on the track in all kinds of weather will dehydrate you completely. Drink lots of water or sports beverages. Do not consume vast quantities of coffee, tea or soft drinks, as they contribute to dehydration. In both hot and cold weather, we recommend that you bring a hat. And don't forget sun screen! Bring your sense of humor and your sense of adventure. We want you to learn while you're with us, but we also want you to have fun and to experience driving at it's finest.

What else do I need to do to get ready?

As with any other sport, high speed driving requires that you be physically and mentally prepared. You want to be at your peak performance before you get on the track. We recommend that you:

    • Get sufficient sleep the night before you attend our events. Car Guys, Inc., has host hotels that we contract with. Take advantage of these hotels so that you aren't trying to get up early and drive like a maniac to get to an event the morning it starts.
    • Eat before and during an event. We don't want someone to pass out from lack of food.
    • Maintain your fluid levels before and during an event. Particularly in hot weather, but you can, and will become dehydrated if you don't drink sufficient fluids even during cooler weather. DRINK YOUR WATER!
    • Have a good attitude. Remember, this is not a race and everyone is in first place. Your goal should be to complete the day having learned something about you, your car and your skills.

Driving which results in an accident where the vehicle is no longer operable will not be grounds for rescheduling or refund of registration fees. "Doubling" of run groups at current/future events will not be permitted. For additional information, contact Car Guys, Inc at 1-800-800-GUYS (4897).
    • Season Pass holders are automatically scheduled for every track event. Season Passes/time are not transferable to the next year. A Season Pass holder who is unable to attend an event, or can only stay part of an event, regardless of reason, forfeits, the missed time. There are no refunds for time missed.

What if I have an accident or cause damage at a Track? Am I liable for costs?

If, during the course of an event, you have an accident, or do something where damage is caused to a track and/or it's property, we will need to record that damage. So, you'll probably find us taking pictures and asking questions about what happened. You can expect us to want a statement from you and your instructor about what happened.

The bottom line is, if Car Guys, Incorporated receives a bill for damages to a track or it's facilities, caused by a student either while driving on the track or at any other time, we will forward/present that bill to the student for reimbursement.

Further, damage caused to another student's vehicle(s) either on the track or in the paddock, is the sole responsibility of the driver/owner who causes the damage.

Obviously, everyone should be very careful at these events to ensure that accidents DON'T happen.

You have a list of clothing/safety equipment posted on your FAQ page. Are these items mandatory?

Yes. If you report to the track with a helmet that does not meet the safety specifications, you will either not be allowed on the track, and/or will have to obtain a helmet that does meet specifications. Additionally, you must wear long sleeves, long pants and closed toe shoes. If you come to pit out without them, you'll be sent back to the Paddock to change clothes. We do not require driving suits, however; they absolutely do meet our safety requirement.
